B4RN HYPERFAST BROADBAND

Firstly, some background to the B4RN projects in the village. The Brookhouse project started about 5 years ago following the then B4RN model of routing the service via fields and gardens. A good number of properties are live and, once a few bottlenecks have been resolved, the service will expand into other areas of Brookhouse. We are now in a position where new government funding opportunities have become available which enables us to use new ways of getting the B4RN service to properties such as pavement digs where needed, together with the use of contractors for some parts of the build. This will enable us speed up delivery of the project and also get to previously hard to reach areas. This means Caton can progress their project.

However, this will only happen if we have a strong interest from the community. This may the best opportunity to see the B4RN service expand quickly throughout the village. We need you to do two things…

1 – SIGN UP FOR A CONNECTION!

This can be done by searching “GetB4RN” in a web browser (or visiting b4rn.org.uk/getb4rn), entering your postcode in the page that comes up, and filling in the form! The page also gives more information on the project. (If ANY kind of business is run from home please register as a business, because more government money is available) Connections can be deferred if you are tied into a contract. The initial contract is for 12 months (these are rules that go with the government voucher scheme) but B4RN DO NOT charge any leaving fees! B4RN will need to see a large amount of interest in the village before starting build, so SIGN UP TODAY!

You MUST fill in the “GetB4RN” form even if you have filled in other forms in the past.

Filling in this form does NOT obligate you to anything, it is an expression of interest that can be turned into a voucher for government funding.  Please do this even if you’re in contract with another provider or only think you ‘might’ take a B4RN service in the future.

2 – INVEST IN SHARES.

Shares can be allocated to the project build and go toward the cost of roll out. At present, 5% interest is paid on all shares from day one. Shares must be held for three years before they can be withdrawn. A £1,500 shareholding will see the B4RN connection fee (£150) waived. With harder financial times looking likely ahead it is imperative that Caton Village grabs this opportunity to install world beating, future proof, full fibre Gigabit broadband NOW.

Other news – Throughout June B4RN carried out research and held a competition to understand how individuals, families and businesses used the B4RN service and were interested in your lockdown stories. We are delighted that the Humprey family from Brookhouse won 1st prize in the competition with their ‘Lockdown Family’ poem and video. Their prize was an Amazon Alexa. You can see their fantastic poem here b4rn.org.uk/news
