EVERY SONG SINGERS
Established in June 2017, we have met at the Victoria Institute, Caton every Mondayy. We are a friendly group who love to sing and enjoy the benefits that group singing brings us.
Session starts with lunch – bring your own savoury food. Drinks and cakes supplied.
New members always welcomed. Please call Caroline McCarthy on 07847586039 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
The next Coffee Morning will be at the Church Hall on the 3rd of November at 10.30. The November Coffee Morning is in support of The Mother’s Union Caravan, who as we know help to provide holidays for disadvantaged families. As usual there will be a raffle, a quiz, as well as several stalls displaying a range of produce.
The Coffee Morning gives people the opportunity to meet friends and neighbours for a chat.
You are most welcome to join us for a coffee, tea or cold drink as well as biscuits.
Caton Gala 2022, yes, that’s right, Caton Gala 2022, is on course to take place. We have recently had a meeting and the seeds have been sown. We are unable to give much detail at this stage as there are still some matters to be finalised. Watch this space.
We are keen to reach out to all parts of the local community and would welcome suggestions and constructive criticism. With this in mind we cordially invite input and suggestions from anyone who may care to contribute. This can be done by attending our meetings, or by e-mail to “email@example.com” or via our Facebook page.
The next meeting will be held at 8:00 PM on Wednesday the 3rd November 2021 at the Station Hotel in Caton. All are welcome.
At our meeting next month on November 4th in the Victoria Institute, starting at 7.30pm we will be celebrating our 100th birthday so we shall have a party with entertainment provided by David Dale and Ian Midgley! The Chairman of Lancashire Federation of Women’s Institutes, Jackie Hobson, will be joining us and presenting us with a glass trophy. If there are any ex-members who would also like to join us that evening, please let me (or any other current member) know, we would love to see you. We have had a commemorative plaque made which will be mounted on the front wall of the Victoria Institute as soon as possible after our meeting. Despite being so old, Caton WI is proud of its achievements and as we approach our 101st year we will go on trying to inspire and enrich the lives of women and girls who wish to play an active role in our community, widen their horizons and learn new skills.
Meat to Eat will be starting back on Friday 5th November at the Victoria Institute at the usual time of 12-30. We will then meet on Friday 19th Nov. and Friday 3rd Dec.
After Christmas we will meet on Friday 7th Jan. and Friday 21st Jan. we will then hopefully continue on the 1st and 3rd Friday of each Month at the Victoria Institute.
We look forward to seeing you all.
FIRST SATURDAY LITTER PICK
A group of residents get together on the first Saturday of every month to pick up litter and tidy the village. Meet outside the Victoria Institute at 10.00 a.m., weather permitting and in line with social distance guidance. Bags and litter pickers provided, and it is a good idea to bring your own gloves.
You decide how much time and where abouts in the village needs some attention. Half an hour or an hour can – and does – make such a difference. If you have seen an area which would benefit from a tidy up, please contact Peter Collins at the Victoria Institute (771733) and he will let the litter pickers know.
LUNE VALLEY CLUSTER GROUP
Announcing a new venture for the Methodist Churches in the Lune Valley
From September 2021 Methodists in Caton and Brookhouse have come together with those in Arkholme and Roeburndale as the Lune Valley Cluster.
As well as holding Sunday Services and other activities in their own chapels, they will be having joint sessions such as mid-week Bible study and fellowship, which is both in-person and by Zoom, so that anyone who cannot travel to the in-person site can attend remotely.
Occasionally Sunday worship will be a joint Cluster Group Service. The next one will be on 7th November at Brookhouse Methodist Church at 10.45a.m., led by the Lune Valley’s Minister, Rev Emma Holroyd. Everyone is welcome.
