Lancashire Supported Lodgings Project are looking for volunteers who can offer support and lodgings to a vulnerable young person at a crucial time in their life.
If you have a spare bedroom and the time and desire to offer practical and emotional support, you are exactly who we are looking for.
We know that a supportive, stable home environment can make a huge difference to a young person’s chances of moving on successfully.
As a lodgings provider, you don’t have the same responsibility as a parent or foster parent, and the young person will have their own project worker. Most lodgings are for between 8 weeks and 2 years. During this time, you’ll receive a weekly payment and ongoing support from Barnardo’s.

The Victoria Institute houses the Community Library. After Lancashire County Council closed the Caton library in 2007, Caton Community Library Trust was established to provide a service for the people of Caton-with-Littledale Parish and the wider Lune Valley. The Victoria Institute took on the running of the Library in 2016 when the Caton Community Library Trust was dissolved. Everyone is welcome to browse and to borrow the books, all of which have been donated and include a good range of favourites and latest bestsellers.
The Community Library is open during the Institute’s normal office hours.
Caton Gala is an annual event, held in early June on the Station Field. It is run by a hard-working committee who meet monthly in The Station.
We would love to welcome new members to the organising committee, if you can assist in any way, please contact Wendy Strickland (07855 590004) or Rosemary Horner (01524 770036). They can, as can all committee members, also be contacted by e-mail at “firstname.lastname@example.org” or via our Facebook page.
The Parish Council works on your behalf. Why not come along to a Parish Council Meeting on the second Tuesday of the month (except August) at 7:15pm in the Victoria Institute.
If you have anything to raise with the Parish Council this can be done at the start of the meeting, in the Open Forum.
Planning applications are considered at Parish Council meetings. Paper copies of applications are not available but can be viewed online the Lancaster City Council website .
The village Emergency Plan is under the tab marked Downloads. The Parish Council’s Code of Conduct, Financial Regulations and Standing Orders are there too.

The Victoria Institute lies at the heart of Caton village, which is located in the beautiful Lune Valley and Forest of Bowland AONB only 5 minutes from J34 of the M6 motorway.
Managed as a charity, the Institute offers a range of rooms available to hire for community, private, and business events. Founded in 1888, the Victoria Institute has been refurbished and extended over recent years to create a comfortable, well equipped venue.
The accommodation has been developed with flexibility of use in mind and, being arranged on one level, it is easily accessible by all. There is an accessible toilet. This vibrant resource centre is an important aspect of social life in the village, and many Clubs and Societies run regular activities in the Institute building. We have a large Hall, two good size meeting rooms, a small meeting room,well-equipped kitchen, and an IT Resource Centre, so most needs can be met whatever the size and nature of your planned event.
The Victoria Institute is also the village Emergency Centre.
