Lancashire HIghways were asked about making the pedestrian crossing in the middle of Caton into a Pelican Crossing. Local people are concerned about drivers not stopping when they should. However Lancashire Highways argue that a Pelican crossing would involve longer waits for pedestrians and drivers alike, and could also cause tailback over the mini-roundabout. They were also asked about installing a crossing at Bull Beck Car Park or Holme Lane. This was also refused, but they expect that speeds in the area will come down when the whole of the A683 from Junction 34 to Kirkby Lonsdale is made a 50mph limit next year. Speeding on Brookhouse Road will be tackled by temporary signage from time to time to reinforce the 20mph limit, like the large mobile electronic sign used recently. Do report speeding vehiclea and bad driving to the police, either online or by calling 101.
