People are asking how they can be ready for the coronavirus locally, and help others. The local community emergency coordinators for our village suggest that our first step should be to make sure we have phone numbers for neighbours and any elderly or vulnerable people we know. Then we can easily check they are OK and offer support if needed. Or ask for help if we ourselves need it. Secondly, community volunteers may be needed. Probably to help in two ways. First to phone those who have gone into self-isolation and keep in touch, and secondly to help deliver essentials to their doorsteps. The Victoria Institute is collecting names of volunteers, so if you would like to be on the list please speak to Peter Collins, the Community Support Worker at the Victoria Institute (0152 771733). He is also working on lists of local firms which might deliver.
