VE Day 75 Celebrations Friday 8th May 2020

The Victoria institute is proposing to celebrate, educate and commemorate the 75thanniversary of VE (Victory in Europe) day. (Note this is the May Day Bank Holiday this year). The idea is to travel back in time to recreate something of the atmosphere of those days - Union flag flying, bunting on the buildings, and period costumes. We would like local people to lend or donate photographs or films that celebrated VE day to display in the Institute. Of particular interest are photographs of local people and places. Have you got any memorabilia including household items, ration books, newspapers, uniforms from the time? Do you know anyone who would come and tell their story to the community or just be there on the day in uniform/costume? Are you a local business that would like to participate? Then get in touch.

We welcome any suggestions as we would like to make the day entertaining, fun, and as real as possible, a day where the whole community comes together. If you would like to help us to organise the event, then you would be made most welcome.
