Bee-friendly planting

Lune Valley Community Beekeepers continue to develop bee-friendly planting areas along the Millennium Cycleway.  A new site is ready to plant now!

Community planting on the 8th April - 1-3pm with the Scouts, Beavers, Brownies, Cubs and Guides and we would welcome anyone from the village who wishes to join us on the day. The planting session will be very simple, no tool required - we are just sprinkling and stamping in seed.

Phil Keresh from the Life 4 a Life team has done a sterling job of both cutting and chain harrowing the new Pollinator area on the Millennium Cycleway Caton. We are very grateful for this donation of both machinery, fuel and manpower.

We cut the entire verge as the 1m edge strip had taken quite a hammering from horses. We will not be planting this with meadow seed on the day so the grass will grow through ( and hopefully will be kept short by the Council Cutting team) .

Seed has been provided by Sarah Robinson, Bowland AONB meadow Specialist. We are grateful to Tim Blythe from Lancashire County Ranger Services for permissions to plant the site.

Please can we ask all dog owners to pick up after their dogs on all the Pollinator sites in the area.
